Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on 1:1 and group training for people with a range of disabilities, in use of various modes of transportation, teaching independent travel skills, route planning, wayfinding, and road safety skills to empower individuals to navigate transport systems safely and independently.
- Support individuals across the lifespan to gain confidence in using public transport, and advocate for self-advocacy skills and universal design principles.
- Provide solution-focused education sessions for groups from a diverse range of backgrounds on how to access and enhance the inclusivity of Ireland’s transport systems.
- Champion a disability-inclusive approach by engaging with individuals who have disabilities and gaining a deep understanding of their unique needs and experiences.
- Actively contribute to the development of our transport accessibility community by fostering strong connections and collaborating with all centre stakeholders.
- Collaborate with individuals who have disabilities and access requirements to create, develop and deliver comprehensive pan-disability training for a range of stakeholders, including equality and awareness training, onboarding and induction training, and accessibility and transport related CPD programs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify training needs, develop curriculum materials, and coordinate sessions.
- Develop and deliver engaging and effective training in a variety of formats including in-person, hybrid and online from the centre or as part of community outreach activities.
- Create and utilise accessible training materials such as presentations and multimedia resources, applying basic learning theories and teaching methods.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions and progress.
- Stay informed about transport & mobility infrastructure, trends, research, and best practices in disability awareness and inclusion, updating training programs accordingly.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, surveys, and assessments, recommending improvements as needed.
- Implement new technologies and innovations related to transport & mobility in training.
Skills & Experience required
- Experience in transport, health, social, or disability services with a focus on education and training.
- Experience in delivering inclusive mobility or disability awareness training.
- Demonstrated commitment to accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities and access requirements, with strong understanding of accessibility issues, disability issues and/or lived experience of disability.
- Experience developing and delivering travel training to meet the needs of people with access requirements, with the ability to design and tailor training programs to meet the unique needs of each individual.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences in meaningful dialogue and to confidently deliver group facilitation and presentations.
- Proficiency in accessible documentation and presentation development, and/or willingness to undertake professional development opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, working independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure program success.
- Knowledge of the broader transport sector or experience in travel-related fields is desirable.
- Certification as a Travel Trainer, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or Registered Occupational Therapist will be highly regarded.
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification relevant to disability, health or transport-related areas.
- Knowledge of accessibility and disability-related laws and regulations.
