Refrigeration Apprentice/Engineer
This role offers the opportunity to complete your apprenticeship while gaining experience in a specialist area of refrigeration, working primarily within laboratories, hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturers and other controlled environments.
Predominantly Monday to Friday daytime work
- No shift work
- No routine overnight supermarket refrigeration work
- Limited out-of-hours requirements
- Occasional weekend cover as required
- Travel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, with occasional overnight stays
For an apprentice who has already developed a strong grounding in refrigeration and wants to broaden their experience in a specialist technical environment, this is an opportunity to take the next step while completing their apprenticeship.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working alongside experienced refrigeration engineers, you will:
- Carry out installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of refrigeration equipment.
- Complete routine preventive maintenance and service work on laboratory and medical
- refrigeration equipment.
- Diagnose refrigeration, electrical and control-related faults.
- Assist with commissioning and testing of new equipment.
- Travel to customer sites throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland.
- Work directly with customers in hospitals, laboratories, pharmaceutical facilities and other regulated environments.
- Develop your knowledge of specialist laboratory refrigeration and associated control systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment software and controls and carry out firmware updates where required.
- Complete service documentation and reports accurately and to a high standard.
- Provide technical support and basic equipment training to customers as your knowledge and experience develop.
Training and Development
Our client will support the successful candidate in continuing and completing their refrigeration and air conditioning apprenticeship.
- In addition to their formal apprenticeship training, the successful candidate will receive:
- Hands-on mentoring from experienced refrigeration engineers.
- Training on specialist laboratory and medical refrigeration equipment.
- Exposure to a wide variety of equipment, manufacturers and technologies.
- Opportunities to attend relevant manufacturer training, workshops and technical courses.
- Increasing responsibility and independence as their skills and experience develop.
Requirements Essential:
- Currently undertaking a recognised Refrigeration and Air Conditioning apprenticeship, with candidates in the later stages of their apprenticeship particularly encouraged to apply.
- Previous practical experience carrying out refrigeration service, maintenance or installation work.
- Full clean EU driving licence.
- Good understanding of refrigeration systems and fault-finding principles.
- Strong practical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach when working on customer sites.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a technical team.
- Willingness to travel throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, including occasional overnight stays.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to completing work and documentation to a high standard.
