We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Generalist with expertise in employee relations, recruitment, and the disciplinary process within a unionized environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing recruitment efforts, handling employee relations issues, and ensuring the proper implementation of disciplinary processes while maintaining compliance with union agreements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of labor law, collective bargaining agreements, and the ability to balance both recruitment and employee relations functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment:
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including creating job descriptions, sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and facilitating hiring decisions.
- Partner with department leaders to understand staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Use various recruiting platforms (job boards, social media, networking) to attract top talent for a wide range of positions.
- Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process by providing timely communication and feedback.
- Coordinate with hiring managers to ensure smooth onboarding for new hires.
- Monitor and track recruitment metrics to assess the effectiveness of hiring strategies and identify areas for improvement.
- Employee Relations:
- Act as the first point of contact for employees and management on employee relations issues.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on resolving employee conflicts, grievances, and disputes.
- Conduct investigations into workplace issues such as harassment, discrimination, and misconduct, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment by promoting effective communication and conflict resolution strategies.
- Disciplinary Process:
- Manage the full cycle of the disciplinary process, including issuing warnings, conducting investigations, and supporting managers in making fair and consistent decisions.
- Work closely with union representatives during the disciplinary process, ensuring all actions align with the collective bargaining agreement.
- Coordinate and support formal disciplinary hearings and appeals, ensuring compliance with company policies and union agreements.
- Provide guidance and training to line managers on proper disciplinary procedures and documentation.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all employee relations and recruitment activities are in compliance with legal regulations, company policies, and union agreements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all disciplinary actions, grievances, recruitment activities, and resolutions.
- Provide reports and analysis on employee relations trends, recruitment progress, and other HR metrics to HR leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist role, with a strong focus on employee relations, recruitment, and unionized environments.
- Proven experience managing full-cycle recruitment processes and handling disciplinary actions, grievances, and disputes in a unionized setting.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and recruiting best practices.
- Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of labor laws and regulations
- Experience in managing conflict and facilitating negotiations in a unionized environment.
- Familiarity with recruitment strategies, sourcing techniques, and employment branding.

- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, management, and union representatives.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner.

- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage various employee relations cases, recruitment activities, and other HR functions while maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring timely follow-up.
